6th Grade: World Cultures and Geography
This year the students will be diving into the subject of Geography and World Cultures. The students will be exploring all aspects of the world including its landforms and people. The students will be delving into how humans and the environment interact with one another. The students will have a major project every quarter. This is an extremely active class. The students will be up and moving every single day.
In addition to studying geography, I will also be introducing the students to the basics of using the chrome books. The Chromebooks are wonderful educational tools and it is important for the students to understand how to properly use them. This may be the students first time working with Chromebooks, but they will be transitioning to a paperless Social Studies class in 7th and 8th grade. Please feel free to follow the homework blog to stay up to date on everything your child will be doing in class. |
7th Grade: World History
|
Welcome to 7th grade! This year the students will be traveling through time and studying all of the wonders of World History. The students will be introduced to topics spanning from Ancient Mesopotamia, Greece, Rome, all the way through the Dark Ages and into the Renaissance. The students will be completing a major project each quarter. This is a very project oriented class, and the students will have options to choose from when presented with a project rubric. This class explores history as a subject of interpretation. The class is centered on students making reasoned judgments about historical events when presented with facts.
Furthermore, this class is a paperless class. Everything will be available to the students online. I encourage the students to organize their virtual folders just as they would a physical folder. The students are able to bring in a wireless/wired mouse to assist with the transition to a paperless class. I encourage students to ask questions and let me know of extenuating circumstances whenever possible. I understand that thing go wrong when dealing with technology, and I would like to be aware of when this happens. The topics covered will span from the first Americans (Mesoamericans) all the way through a comprehensive study of WW2. This class will have some projects, but not as many as seventh grade. Students will be presented with project options whenever possible to ensure they are conducive to their academic strengths. The curriculum for this class is centered on primary sources and supplemental readings in order to ensure students develop critical thinking skills. Students will be working in a paperless environment while exploring events in American History through multiple perspectives.
